I was just getting into my stride on Flickr when I read some comments by James Elkins that incensed me so much I started a group there called "Bollocks to James Elkins", prefaced by an short polemical essay. Briefly, Elkins, a thinker and writer I'd previous rather enjoyed and respected had managed to combine common or garden snobbery with the worst of the art world's fear of taint by the non-initiated and, most heinous of all in a thinker about art, a horribly blind, ignorant and ahistorical bureaucratic formalism about what art can and cannot be.
