Network work. 'The Empress of Blandings' is one of those strange inhabitants of Flickr which make it a confusing place for Elkins and a delight for the rest of us. She (I think she's a she; the Empress keeps her cards close to her chest) lives in Taipei and her work includes conventional, if very beautiful, landscape photos of both rural and urban Taiwan, Chinese characters rendered in Lego, drawings and a huge set of motion blur images of people on scooters on the streets of Taipei. I asked her (she answers, guardedly, messages on Flickr) if she saw herself as an artist and she said she wasn't sure. I have this recurring vision of all 700 of the scooter images installed on a gallery wall. In a spirit of admiration and networked collaboration I drew and posted a tiny version of one of the thumbnail pages for the project. (Click on the image)
