kingfisher.mov: Feb 2005. I grabbed a short nature film from the BBC website and exported it frame by frame at 6 f.p.s. I gridded up each image, then the same number of blank pages of the same size and printed them out. I carefully copied in pastel, to the best of my ability, what I saw of the bird in each exported still. I numbered each completed page to keep track before I scanned it and re-assembled the whole thing as a movie, with the addition of a short original score. You can view my leaving of all this apparatus as a kind of Brechtian distancing effect, which it is; it's equally true, however, that having a Brechtian distancing effect was a kind of conceptual innoculation against potential criticism of my actual drawing.
